Translation.

1857. 23 November.Kaipara District.This Deed executed this twenty third of the days of November in the Year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty seven 1857 is the final Surrender final Sale and Conveyance by Us the Chiefs and People of the tribe of Te Uriohau whose Names are hereunto subscribed in Consideration of the Sum of Five Hundred Pounds £500 Okahu No. I. to Us paid by John Rogan on behalf of Queen Victoria (and we hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said Monies) of All that Piece of our Land situated at Kaipara and named Okahu unto Queen Victoria Her Heirs the Kings or Queens who may succeed Her and Her Assigns Namely that Piece of Land the Boundaries whereof commence Boundaries. inland of Tokatoka on the survey line commenced by Mr. Fenton and completed by Mr. McCabe which extends to the Manganui river and bears by Compass 30°. 0′ the distance being 626 Chains 93 links it then follows the course of the Manganui river as far as Mr. Fenton's survey line which cuts the river as directed by Matitikuha bearing by Compass 14°. 15′ distance 270 chains 80 links to a line bearing 338°. 0′ distance 127 ch. 20 lk. and along the line bearing 129°. 2′ distance 196 chains to the point of Commencement With its Trees Minerals Waters Lakes Streams Good places and Bad Plains Forests and All appertaining to the said Land above the surface of the land or beneath the surface of the land and all the Right Title Interest Claim and Demand whatsoever of Us and Each of Us hereunto subscribed to the said Land. Now we have for ever given up and wept over bidden farewell to and transferred under the shining sun of this day that Land which descended to us from our Forefathers the Boundaries whereof have been above recited and the Plan whereof is attached to this Deed as a lasting possession to The Queen and Her assigns absolutely for ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the Conditions contained in this Deed we have hereunto signed our Names and Marks. And in testimony of the consent of Mr. Rogan for Her Majesty the Queen to all the conditions contained in this Deed he also has signed his Name.
