Translation.
This Deed of Sale of Land executed at Waimahanga on the 8th day of June in the
1857. 8 June.Whangarei District. year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty seven is the
consent of us the Chiefs and the freemen of the Ngapuhi Tribe of the family of
Ngaitorongare to the giving up of a portion of our land at Whangarei (Parahaki
being the name by which Parahaki. this land is known) to the Queen Victoria of England and to Her Heirs
male or female after her for ever in consideration of the sum of Five Hundred
Pounds the land being that delineated on the plan in the margin of this deed.
These are the boundaries commencing on the boundary of Mr. Dent's farm at the
Boundaries. [4,481 acres.] Awaroa thence down the Awaroa river to its mouth thence up the river
Hatea to the Ahipupu thence up the course of the said river thence up the
surveyed line running in an easterly direction separating Pehiawiri thence along
the said line to the boundary line of the Whareora Block thence along the said
line to Kahiwa thence along the boundary of the land sold to Gorrie till it
reaches the land of Dent thence along the boundary of Dent's land to the point
of commencement.
The portion not coloured red in the annexed plan included in the aforesaid
boundary Portion reserve. we reserve for ourselves.
Now we hereby acknowledged to have received the aforesaid sum of Two Hundred
Receipt for £200. Pounds in payment for the aforesaid land from the hands of
John Grant Johnson a Commissioner for
the purchase of land from the Natives of New Zealand. In witness whereof we do
hereby write our names on this eighth day of June 1857 in token of our assent.
