Translation.

1854. 16 February.Whangarei District.This Deed executed on the sixteenth day of February in the Year One thousand eight hundred and fifty four—the consent of Pou, of Te Karoro, of Ruakaka Te Mania, and of all their tribe—the consent also of the Queen of England on her part. Now we, Pou, Te Karoro, Te Mania, and all our tribe, being the owners of the Land described in this Deed do hereby consent to sell this Land to the Queen Victoria in consideration of the sum of Three hundred and fifty Pounds to be paid to us. Now therefore we hereby make over, and give up to the Queen Victoria of England, to the Kings or Queens which may succeed for ever—the said Land and all appurtenances thereunto belonging of which the following Boundaries. are the boundaries—Commencing at the boundary of the Government land (surveyed by Mr. Meurant) at Taumatatupari thence extending inland, to Pukewhero-whero, Kaiwaka, Ohiha thence to Rangiora, Te Mata, Te hau o Manaia, thence to Orua, thence to Waipapa—where it then takes a south westerly direction—this is the inland boundary, thence to Watapakeke, thence to Te Maia thence to Opatea thence to Haukawarua, Hikuwaru, thence to Wharekura, thence to Pohuenui where it turns to the sea, thence to Pukehinau, thence to Poherangi, Te Urititi where it runs into the sea thence along the sea coast to the point of commencement at Poupouwhenua. The portion exempted for us being delineated on the plan on the back hereof. Ten per cent of the proceeds of the sale of this Land to be expended for the benefit of the Aborigines.
