Translation.

This Deed written on this eighth day of December in the year of our Lord 1858 is a 1858 8 December.Bay of Islands District. full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us the Chiefs and People of the Tribe known as "Ngapuhi" whose names are hereunto subscribed And Witnesseth that on behalf of ourselves our relatives and descendants we have by signing this deed under the shining sun of this day parted with and for ever transferred unto Victoria Queen of Okaihau No. I. Mawhekairanci. England Her Heirs the Kings and Queens who may succeed Her and Her and Their Assigns for ever in consideration of the Sum of Four hundred and fifty Pounds (£450 . 0 . 0) to us paid by Henry T. Kemp on behalf of the Queen Victoria (and we hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) all that piece of our Land situated at Waimate (west) and named "Mawhekairangi" the boundaries where of are set forth at the foot of this Deed and a plan of which Land is annexed thereto with its trees minerals waters rivers lakes streams and all appertaining to the said Laud or beneath the surface of the said Land and all our right title claim and interest whatsoever thereon To Hold to Queen Victoria Her Heirs and Assigns as a lasting possession absolutely for ever and ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the conditions of this Deed we have hereunto subscribed our names and marks. And in testimony of the consent of the Queen of England on her part to all the conditions of this Deed the name of Henry T. Kemp Commissioner is hereunto subscribed. These are the boundaries Boundaries. of the Land commencing at the Puriri Tree, from thence it follows the surveyed line [4,554 acres.] until it reaches "Taumata-Pararoro," and from thence along the line until it reaches the main stream of "Whakanekeneke," it follows that stream to "Te Whanautarewarewa," from thence it turns towards "Taumatatoetoe," from thence to the high, ground, above where it joins the Stream called "Waiharakeke," following that Stream until it reaches "Te Kauere," from thence it turns towards "Te Rakaututahi," the Lake then becomes the boundary until it reaches the surveyed line, and joins the Puriri Tree where it first commenced, particularly set forth in the Map attached.

The Reserves for the Natives, and the Burial grounds which have been surveyed, are hereby excluded from this sale, as shown on the Plan annexed. Reserves shown on Plan.

Receipt for £450. Received this eighth day of December in the Year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty eight (1858) the Sum of Four hundred and fifty Pounds sterling (£450 . 0 . 0) being the consideration money expressed in the above-written Deed to be paid by Henry T. Kemp on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen to us.
