Translation.
1875. 3 February.Bay of Plenty District.This Deed written on this third day of February in the Year
of our Lord 1875 is a full and final sale conveyance and surrender by us the
Chiefs and People of the Tribe Ngatimanawa whose names are hereunto subscribed
And Witnesseth that on behalf of ourselves our relatives and descendants we have
by signing this Deed under the shining
Parawai. sun of this day parted with and for ever transferred unto Victoria Queen
of England Her Heirs the Kings and Queens who may succeed Her and Her and their
Assigns for ever in consideration of the sum of Two hundred and twenty five
pounds (£225 . 0 . 0) to us paid by Henry Mitchell Esquire on behalf of the
Queen Victoria (and we hereby acknowledge the receipt of the said monies) all
that piece of our Land situated at Te Awa o te Atua and named Parawai the
boundaries whereof are set forth at the foot of this Deed and a plan of which
Land is annexed thereto with its trees, minerals, waters, rivers, lakes,
streams, and all appertaining to the said Land or beneath the surface of the
said Land and all our right title claim and interest whatsoever thereon To hold
to Queen Victoria Her Heirs and Assigns as a lasting possession absolutely for
ever and ever. And in testimony of our consent to all the conditions of this
Deed we have hereunto subscribed our names and marks. And in testimony of the
consent of the Queen of England on her part to all the conditions of this Deed
the names of Charles Oliver
Boundaries. [1,725 acres.] Bond Davis and H. Mitchell are hereunto subscribed. These are the
boundaries of the Land commencing at the North West corner Bounded towards the
North West by allotment number twenty seven one hundred and forty seven chains
and sixty links and Four thousand and sixteen links thence crossing a road one
hundred and eight links thence by allotment number twenty seven aforesaid Nine
thousand three hundred and sixty links towards the East by the Tarawera River
towards the South by a road one hundred links wide one thousand three hundred
and twenty links one thousand three hundred and seventy one links, seven hundred
and forty two links, nine hundred and sixty five links Three hundred and eighty
links, one thousand seven hundred and seven links, Eight hundred and forty five
links, and one thousand seven hundred and sixty one links thence crossing a road
One hundred and nine links towards the South East by a road of width aforesaid
Three thousand and ninety four links thence towards the North East by a road of
width aforesaid seven hundred and forty six links, Two thousand seven hundred
and seventeen links and Three hundred and twenty one links again towards the
South East by allotment number Thirty One hundred and sixty chains and towards
the South West by allotment number Twenty eight Eight thousand seven hundred and
forty nine links Intersected from North to South by a road one hundred links
wide which is hereby reserved through the said allotment Subject nevertheless to
the right of the Governor at any time hereafter to take and lay off for Public
purposes one or more line or lines of road on the said land, the said Parawai
being situate in the Parish of
