Translation.
1851. 22 March.Whaingaroa District.This Deed written on the twenty second day of March one
thousand eight hundred and fifty one is an Agreement made between certain Chiefs
of Ngatimahanga and of Nga te Hourua and the Queen of England on her own behalf
Whereby Wiremu Nero, Te Waka, Hetaraka, Hemi, Noa, Te Wapu the owners of the
piece of Land described in this Deed they and their whole tribes consent to sell
this piece of Land to Queen
Whaingaroa Block. Victoria in consideration of three payments the first of two hundred
pounds the second of one hundred pounds and the third of one hundred pounds
these sums
Price £400. of money to be paid to Wiremu Nero and his friends Wherefore they give
and deliver over to Victoria Queen of England and to her Successors for ever all
that land and all thereto belonging, bounded as follows, commencing at
Putohitohi at high water mark
Boundaries. the boundary goes thence to the landing place thence crossing the river
Opotoru to Hutiwai, thence in a straight line to Matahahaia marked by a hole dug
by the side of the path to Aotea, thence to Omaki, Paraoanui, Kohukohu,
Ngaurakehu, Pokohuka till it reaches the Hue thence it runs along the Southern
side of the Waitetuna till it reaches the sea shore along which it keeps at
every turn to Putohitohi. Te Mata, Takapaunui,
Reserves:

Ohiapopoko, and Te Uku are reserved as places of abode for the owners of
the land by whom the boundaries of these several places have been pointed out,
the Plan is described on the other side of this Deed.
