Translation.
1857. 24 August.Whaingaroa District.Know all men by these Presents that on this Twenty fourth
(24) day of August in the Year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty
seven 1857 We the undersigned Aboriginal Chiefs and Aboriginal Natives of New
Zealand in Consideration of the sum of Twenty Pounds £20 to Us paid by John
Rogan Esquire on behalf of Her Wahatane. Majesty Queen Victoria Twenty pounds having been paid to us previously
(the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) Do and each of Us Doth hereby Sell
Release and Convey unto Her said Majesty Queen Victoria Her Heirs Successors and
Assigns all Boundaries. that Piece or Parcel of Land called Wahatane The boundary of the Land
commences at Te Waiwherowhero running thence to Mangakino thence to Hine te
matea thence to Waitetuna and Wahatane thence along the Waitetuna river as far
as Te Waiwherowhero. There the boundaries join. And all the Rights and
Appurtenances thereunto belonging and all the Right Title Interest Claim and
Demand whatsoever of Us and each of Us the Undersigned therein and thereto To
Hold the said Land and Appurtenances unto Her said Majesty Her Heirs and Assigns
absolutely for ever. In witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names.
