Kia mohio nga tangata katoa ki to matou wakaaetanga ki te tuku atu i to matou whenua ki Otawhao ki a Kuini Wikitoria tuku iho ki ona uri ake ake ake hei utu tetahi wahi mo nga taonga o Te Hahi Mihinare Komiti o Ranana (Church Missionary Society of London) i homai e te Mokena (Revd. Translation.

1850. 26 March.Waipa District.This Document was written on the 26th day of March in the year 1850 of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Let all the people know of our consent to cede our land at Otawhao to Queen Victoria Otawhao Church Mission Station. and her Successors for ever partly in consideration of the goods of the Church Missionary Society of London given to us by the Revd. John Morgan these are the things that he gave us:
  • Receipt for cash and goods. Two cows
  • Two calves
  • Two sheep
  • One mare
  • Five pounds £5 cash
and partly a free gift whereby we gave that portion of the land on the Western side.
Boundaries. These are the boundaries of the place which we have ceded commencing at the mouth of Taruna River thence straight to the single dry Pukatea standing in the middle of the swamp, thence towards the South-West to the post that was put in from thence to Pohotiraha from thence to the West Pupuwai to one corner of Pohotiraha thence direct to the West to the summit of Te Tapui leaving that it goes on to the mouth of the Pa Otawhao it strikes off from there following the edge of the swamp towards the North on to the summit of Tapuawakaroro from thence towards the East to Ruatiutiu there it turns towards the North and comes on to Okawa direct from thence to the Mangapiko stream the boundary follows that stream to Mangaohoi thence along that stream to Te Awamutu thence along the Mangaohoi to the mouth of the Taruna.

We pointed out these boundaries to C. W. Ligar Esquire Surveyor General; he surveyed the land and made a plan.

We place our names at the foot of this document in token of our having ceded this portion of land to Queen Victoria and her Successors for ever.
