Translation.
1857. 12 June.Waikato District.Know all men by these Presents that on this twelfth 12 day of
June in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and fifty seven 1857 We
the undersigned aboriginal Native Chiefs and aboriginal Natives of New Zealand
in consideration of the Karoromanu. sum of one hundred pounds £100 to us paid by John Rogan Esquire on
behalf of Her Majesty Queen Victoria (the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged) do and each of us doth hereby sell release and convey unto Her
said Majesty Queen Victoria Her heirs successors and assigns all that piece or
parcel of land known by the name of Karoromanu at Waikato.
Boundaries.[2,088 acres.] The boundary of the land commences at Ngapuketurua thence along the sea
coast until it reaches the mouth of the Matuatua stream thence along the
Matuatua stream until it reaches te Paripari thence on northward to Tetaha to
Waipuna to Kororomanu and to Pukengaio turning thence to Ngapuketurua and
striking the old boundary.
Reserve at Matuatua. One place only is reserved for us, the plan whereof is attached to this
Deed The said place is at the mouth of Matuatua—And all the Rights and
Appurtenances thereunto belonging and all the Right Title Interest Claim and
Demand whatsoever of us and each of us therein and thereto to Have and to Hold
the said Land and Appurtenances unto Her said Majesty Her Heirs and Assigns
absolutely for ever. In witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names.
