Translation.

1854. 29 July.Waipa District.This Deed or Sale of land written on this the 29th day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four (1854) is a true and faithful consenting on our part to surrender for ever a portion of our land to Victoria the Queen of England to the Kings or Queen who may succeed her for ever. And in consideration Marotahei. of our having given this our consent to sell a portion of our land the Queen of England Heather's homestead. consents on her part to pay us the sum of Forty pounds sterling (£40) this sum Receipt for £40. we have received at the hands of Mr. McLean. The boundaries of the land are these: It commences inland at a wood or bush called Marotahei at the survey line made Boundaries.[170 acres.] by Hogan and Wiremu Toitoi, it then follows the course of the river called Mangaotomo until it reaches Mangaheka, it then penetrates or goes through the Mangaheka until it reaches the swamp called Te Weranga until it joins the survey of Wiremu Toitoi. One hundred and seventy acres of this land have now been given up by us under the shining sun of heaven with its rivers, forests, pastures, minerals, and whatsoever thereunto appertains both above and below the land, we now surrender the same to the Queen for ever and ever. And in consideration of bur having given this our consent we we have hereunto signed our names and marks.
