1873 19 FebruaryHauraki District.This Deed made the Nineteenth day of February in the year of
our Lord One thousand eight hundred and seventy three Between Raika
Whakarongotai of the District of B Tapuae Ouenuku Hauraki in the Province of Auckland in the Colony of New Zealand
Aboriginal Native hereinafter termed the said Native of the one part and Her
Majesty Queen Victoria of the other part Witnesseth that in consideration of the
sum of Fourteen pounds Ten Receipt for £14 . 10. shillings paid by Her said Majesty to the said Native (the receipt
whereof is hereby acknowledged) the said Native doth hereby convey and assure
release surrender and cede unto Her said Majesty Her heirs and successors All
that portion of the foreshore or parcel of land between high-water mark and
low-water mark at Shortland in the District of Hauraki in the Province of
Auckland aforesaid called or known by the name of B Te Tapuae Ouenuku containing
by admeasurement Seven acres — roods and Boundaries [7a. 0r.20.p.] Twenty perches be the same more or less Bounded on the North by B
Whakaupapa; On the South by B Hangaruru; On the West by the Channel of the
Kauaeranga River, and on the East by the Te Tapuae Ouenuku Block as the same is
delineated on the plan drawn hereon. With all the rights and appurtenances
thereunto belonging And all other the estate right title interest and demand
whatsoever if any of the said Native in and to the said Foreshore or parcel of
land and premises and every part thereof To have and to hold unto Her said
Majesty Her Heirs and successors for ever Provided always that this Deed and
nothing herein contained or implied shall be deemed in any way to infringe upon
or affect the undoubted prerogatives of Her said Majesty Her heirs and
successors as the sole and absolute Sovereigns of the whole territory of New
Zealand its shores and waters, In Witness whereof the said parties have hereunto
subscribed their names the day and year first hereinbefore written.
