Blackmount Station,

at the foot of the bare and serrated Take time Ranges, where we have been cordially pressed to stay for the night by the hospitable owner. We pass Clifden station, beautifully situated on the opposite bank of the Waiau, and distant about two miles from the caves. Following the Waiau Valley, principally through flat country over a good road, we comfortably traverse the 22 miles between Clifden and Blankmount, reaching oar destination before darkness has set in, and just in time to avoid a good wetting from the rain which has commenced to fall. A good dinner and a good nigbt's rest prepare us for our start on the morrow, and after an early breakfast and the freedom of the orchard, with its cherries and raspberries, &c., we continue our way in flue weather up the Waiau Valley to
