Arithmetic.

1.Divide one thousand and six million thirty thousand and seven by three hundred and eight in three factors. Explain the method of finding the correct remainder.
2.Multiply 16 tons 13 cwt. 1 qr. 6 lbs. by 86.
3.If £47 14s. 8d. be divided among 9 men and 5 boys, giving each man three times as much as a boy, what is the share of each?
4.Find, by Practice, the value of 24ac. 3ro. 16po. at £2 11s. 10d. per acre.
5.Simplify 1/3 of 2 3/5 of formula/equation
6.Find the value of 2/3 of 4/5 of 11s. 3d.; and express this value as the fraction of 2/11 of half-a-guinea.
7.Explain the method of converting a vulgar fraction into a decimal one. If the denomination of a fraction is 16, and the numerator an odd number, shew why the equivalent decimal terminates in four places. Divide ·03091 by 14·05, and 1·18 by ·014.
8.If the carriage of 21·97 tons for 6·86 miles cost £7 17s. 6d., what weight will be carried 21·56 miles for £9 18s.?
9.Extract the square root of ·7 to five places of decimals.
10.If a cubic foot of water weighs 1000 oz., and a gallon of water weighs 10 lbs., find to what depth a rectangular cistern, 16 ft. 6 in. long and 8 ft. 4 in. broad, is filled when it contains 13,750 gallons.
11.If £2320 amounts in 7 months to £2421 10s., find the rate per cent, per annum.
12.If a cubic yard of water weighs¾ ton, and a cubic metre of water weighs 1000 kilogrammes, express the value of a kilogramme in lbs. [1 metre = 39·27 inches.]
