The Multiplication Table.

As meaningless an illustration is that in which the multiplication table plays a part. There is no religion, they say, in the multiplication table. I never heard any one say there was, while it is not unknown that there may be religion, or antipathy to religion, in him who teaches the table, as well as in the place in which it is taught. A page 50 sneer at "Popery" requires no allusion to figures or ciphering, unless when the years of the Apocalypse, or the coming of Antichrist, are under discussion.
