Canterbury, 31st December, 1878

Canterbury,
During the quarter ending December, 1878, the follow-ing ships have arrived with immigrants, viz.;—The "Waitangi," "Hydaspes," "Opawa," and "Marlborough," conveying 1,275 souls, equal to 1,125 statute adults, classified as under;—
160 families, representing 568 souls = 418 adults.
Single Men 397 adults.
Single Women 310 adults.
Total, 1,275 souls = 1,125 adults.

The class of immigrants were very suitable for the requirements of the Colony, and met with ready employment.
