III.—Chemistry (Mr. Wicks').
Lectures were delivered at the High School every Friday evening on oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon, sulphur, phosphorus, chlorine, potassium, sodium, calcium, aluminium, gold, arsenicum, antimony, and iron, and a number of experiments to show the properties of each were per-formed. During the lectures the atomic theory, notation, and nomencla-ture were explained, also the methods of taking the specific gravity of solids, &c. A description of the manufacture and uses of the barometer, thermometer, and other instruments used in the laboratory were given.
