Victoria '65 Supplement to Salient, Vol. 28, No. 1. 1965.

Discounts Save You Money

Discounts Save You Money

It is important that you know what discounts are available. Student discounts save you money!

Unlike universities overseas, few student discounts have yet been negotiated in New Zealand. This is not so much for want of trying, but rather because only recently has the business community become aware of the number of university students.

Books: Under an agreement with the Booksellers' Association, text-books listed in University Calendars are subject to a 10 per cent discount. Generally this discount is allowed on all text-books bought for a university course, but booksellers vary in their practices. If you are not given a discount and you think you should be, ask why, politely.

Transport: Railway concession tickets, including those for young workers, are available to university students. Baggage vouchers entitling students travelling with large amounts of luggage to reduced charges can be obtained from the University office.

Magazines: Two American magazines offer student rates, They are Time and the Christian Science Monitor.

Societies: Many societies offer considerable discounts to students. Examples are the Wellington Film Society and French Club.

Shows And Concerts: Many show promoters offer substantial discounts to students. It has not been unknown for tickets to be handed out free of charge. These offers are always advertised outside the Student's Association Office. The N.Z.B.C. In particular frequently offer tickets at reduced prices.

Overseas: A much with range of discounts has been negotiated in overseas countries by students there, and n.z. students can take advantage of them through N.Z.U.S.A. Full information can be obtained from the N.Z.U.S.A. office.
