S.G.M. Motions

(1) "That the Executive be instructed to organise a one-day total student boycott of all University lectures and activities in support for the following ten points:

(1)That criteria of successful part-time study be established.
(2)That students who, because of individual circumstances, are unable to study full-time be accorded adequate assistance in the payment of fees and provision be made for part-time students to qualify for all full-time bursaries.
(3)That the four-year tenability clause for U.E. bursaries be restored.
(4)Masters bursaries should be available to all graduates irrespective of the time taken to complete the first degree.
(5)All students doing post-graduate courses should be paid an allowance of at least £300 to enable them to study full-time.
(6)That all private overseas students who are receiving no allowances from their home authority once admitted to New Zealand Universities be given the same financial assistance that is available for New Zealand citizens.
(7)Fees be returned to their 1961 level.
(8)Immediate arrangements be made for full payment of fees for all successful students and to remove discouraging bursary anomalies.
(9)

Effective and immediate Government action be taken on the problem of student accommodation in particular, in line with

(a)The Hughes Parry Report 1959,
(b)Provision by Government of the total cost of Halls of Resident and blocks of students' flats.
(10)That Government action be taken immediately to restore and expand the University Building Programme, especially at the University of Auckland.

For this they shall prepare documentation and shall release this to all interested organisations, the Press, T.V., and other news sources. Support should be sought from members of the staff and at the same time a program me of action should be drawn up for presentation to the Government. The action is to be taken in a serious and orderly manner and is to be taken in the interest not only of students at Victoria University, but also of students throughout New Zealand. . . "

(II) "That this meeting direct its Executive to approach N. Z. Easter Council 1965 with a view to obtaining all New Zealand Universities and University College support for the following plan of action:

(a)

Obtain N. Z. U. S. A. student signatures to a petition to Parliament praying that Parliament take immediate action on -

(i)providing Halls of Residence;
(ii)adjusting bursaries in line with cost of living increases, and
(iii)removing anomalies in the present bursary system.
(b)To document the grievances and anomalies in the present accommodation situations and bursary system, and present them to the Easter Council meeting of N. Z. U. S. A. to gain support from other Constituent Universities .."

(III) "That the Secretary of the Association write immediately to the Secretary

A.U.T. (Wellington Branch) requesting that the following matters be placed on A.U.T. Agenda for the A.G.M. next Tuesday:

(1)(1) Students' fees
(2)Students Bursaries
(3)Student accommodation. "

(IV) "That this meeting support the Executive in a move to purchase space in both the Wellington Daily newspapers and prepare full documentation and outline the case of student grievances and insert in the space so purchased."
