Bernard [unclear: Galvin]

A Third-Year full-time Arts student, Bernard has had wide experience as Assistant Editor and Sports Editor of Salient '52-53. Secretary of the national student newspaper association, table tennis selector '52. Tournament Reporter '52. and is Junior Delegate for Winter Tournament '52 He plays for the second table tennis and cricket teams (two games for Senior XI). He has frequently debated, and organised many of the "incidental" efforts on Capping Day.

He supports greater liaison between Exec. and the Clubs and stirring up Club spirit by the provision of better facilities such as the Union Building and Te Aro Park (with Its full-sire ground) will provide. At the same time, he thinks the cultural clubs should get more of the financial "cake." He opposes intervention by the Association in local and international politics but believes that we should always be ready to protect student interests concerning bursaries, etc.

Bill is a 6th year law student finishing off B.A. LL.B. After one year on the Executive he feels that he has learnt enough of the workings of the Association to Justify his standing for Secretary. His record in Who's Who reads—"Long association with Drama Club, Committee 1948, Secretary 1948. President. 1950, 51, 52, 53, Tournament Rep. in Drama 1948, 1951 Cappicade Committee 1951. Assistant Editor 1952. Editorial Staff 1953. Foundation Committee Member Charter Club, Weir House, 1949, Fungus McShaggin. Hamlet Extrav. 1949. coauthor and leading role Extrav. 1950. resigned Extrav. Assistant Producer 1951. frustrated co-author. Assistant Producer Extrav. 1952. Associate Producer. Publicity Controller. Electra. Extrav. 1953. Observer N.Z.U.S.A. 1953. Joint Winner Inter-University Law Moot 1953. His policy: To see that the affairs of the Association are run in the interests of the students as a whole and not in the interests of any pressure group; to raise the prestige of the College among the burgesses and citizenry: to support worthwhile schemes for improving the lot of the student be he or she part time, full time, interested in sport, culture, study, of any race, creed or religion whatsoever.
