Pip Piper

L. B. piper. B.Sc., part-time rehab, student doing biology. Member of Executive 1949 and 1950. First attended V.U.C. 1946, Weir House 1947-48, Senior Tournament Delegate, Easter and Winter, 1948. Distribution manager Salient, 1949. exchange manager 1950. Holds V.U.C. Blues for swimming and men's basketball.

At present: Swimming Club secretary, Salient reporter, and chairman of Socialist Club, Tramps and debates intermittently. Can be blamed for co-authorship of this year's Ex travaganza "Sidarella."

His previous experience on Executive and other administrative activities convinces him that the outgoing Executive has been inefficient and blind to student needs. Executive should be more mature in its outlook—to serve students, not to act as prefects. He believes in immediate laying of foundations of new students' building; free X-ray scheme for students; support for N.Z.S.L.F.'s Bursary proposals; injunction against University of N.Z.'s increase in exam, fees; recommencing the broken tradition of Spike, definite continuance of Winter Tournament; appointment of Salient Editor on merit alone; no Executive control on "free speech" of clubs; greater financial grants to clubs, less on administration; greater executive responsibility for student relief.
