Blues Dinner tomorrow

Blues Dinner tomorrow

The VUW Blues Dinner for 1968 will be held tomorrow evening at 7.30 p.m, in the Student Union Building.

At the dinner, the "Sportsman of the Year" Award for 1968 will be presented by the Rt Hon Sir Richard Wild, K.C.M.G.

The Blues Dinner is an annual event at which the Sports Blues for the year are presented. All past Blues are invited to attend and the well-known sportsman John Reid has been invited to speak.

The awarding of the "Sportsman of the Year" trophy must be posing some problems for the selection committee.

In a year when no single sportsman or woman hat stamped their personality overwhelmingly on the university sporting scene, there are a number of contenders each with a good chance of taking the award.

Miss Pru Chapman, the Olympic swimmer, must be in the final reckoning for the award, but then John Gibbons, a member of the very successful New Zealand rowing eight that it Mexico-bound must also be on a short list.

Others who must surely be in the reckoning for the trophy are Penny Haworth, who had a highly successful athletic season; Rod Trott, a Blue in both rugby and rowing; and finally Robbie Walker, a double Blue in swimming and water polo.

Blues Dinners in past years have been great successes; this year promises to be no exception. Blues winners and their partners should not mist it.
