Now That the presidential elections are over, and everybody's tempers have cooled a bit. some stock taking may be in order.

It's safe to predict that we'll now see some of the unsuccessful candidates back in the executive elections this month.

And, mostly, they'll be elected whatever their qualifications. After all, everybody's heard of them now.

Those who so clumsily claimed to add life to the elections would have done VUWSA a greater service by finding a suitable candidate for treasurer.

The fact that no Commerce student stood for this crucial position says something about those who claim they want to do something for their fellow students.

The treasurer's job is the most important post there is in this association. But it offers no publicity and no "perks." Logically it seems to find no candidates either.

Who Says the annual road toll means anything? With the growth of traffic, why shouldn't the total go up. year by year?

For a valid comparison, we need some statistical base for the figures—even deaths per 100.000 cars would be a figure of more value.

Squash Club players may have been surprised that they didn't get their suggested club grant this year.

But the suggested grant of £270 for 89 players would have given back to this favoured few more than they paid in Association fees.

Only £2/10/- of each £G/10/-fee goes to the Association's funds—the rest goes to the building fund and to Salient.

Well Kiddies, it must be about time for our Pick the Honorary Graduate competition. You know—the guy who's most abused the universities in the past year.

So many of the really fine men have already been rewarded, or are ineligible. Brigadier Gilbert, for instance, could hardly accept one—since this would mean attending university in his capacity as a security officer.

Tom Shand was in the running for a while—but he actually admitted at Easter that the universities do need buildings and adequate salaries. (People get expelled from the Labour Party for saying less than that).

No, kiddies, you'll have to do better than that. To make it worth the effort, there's a double theatre ticket for the best suggestion before next issue.
