Film club to expand next year

Film club to expand next year

Salient Reporter

Next Year the Film Society hopes to be the most active club in the university, with at least 10 screenings free to members, and others to which members will be admitted at, a reduced rate. Emphasis will be on modern films which have not been previously, screened. Included among these films will be at least one specially imported film which will not be shown anywhere else in New Zealand.

The 1967 season will commence with a Festival of up to ten films during enrolling and Orientation weeks. During this period it is hoped to build the society's membership upto the 500 mark, which will make possible the screening of a greater number of programmes than would otherwise be the case.

Negotiations are underway in an attempt to arrange special foreign film festivals at city cinemas. The society is concerned at the apparent lack of support for fine films shown commercially and hopes to remedy this situation by giving students information about films which will be of special interest.

A new venture next year will be the bi-monthly publication of the first magazine in New Zealand devoted solely to the appreciation and criticism of films.
