The Student Representative Council of the University of Pretoria has banned the formation of a folk-singing group — because folk-singers are "subversive, communistic and threaten the future of the Afrikaner." The trouble started when a group of students planned to hold a meeting to form a folk-singing group. The SRC banned the meeting in the light of "preliminary findings" made by a committee which investigated folk-singing. The ban on folk-singing comes three months after the SRC also banned women students at Pretoria University from smoking on the campus.
