The eternal search for Meaning. I found some Meaning yesterday. Oh, where. Under this tree. I was looking for crocuses and I found a Plin. Round, it was, and white. I saw Meaning in it. I am going to look for The Meaning tomorrow. I, on the other hand, have ceased looking, alas. They tell me the best place to track down a Meaning is between two covers. A prize to the first to report the first Meaning of the Spring.

Let's shoot the Returning Officer. No, let's be fair, it wasn't entirely all her fault—she was pushed into the job somewhat. Still, the elections were a bit of a shambles in some ways. Yes? Not that the candidates did much to enliven or enworthy the proceedings. Still, I feel that the best man won, and by a large enough margin to ensure that he has the confidence of the students.

I am impressed by the ability of some people to get themselves a trip to New York very shortly after taking up a position where overseas trips are part of the perks. At least Taylor didn't get it in the same way of one who went overseas a short while agoby meeting the Ambassador at a cocktail party and initiating suitable pressure.

A member of the New Zealand Police suggested to the Capping Controller that it would be "unwise" to have any anti-USA policy in Vietnam floats in procesh, on the grounds apparently that it might incite the public to riot. "Here is the News. In Wellington today police broke up a riot against the Government's policy in Vietnam. The disturbance was believed to have been incited by a float in the students' 'Procesh' bearing the words 'Yanks Go Home.' Middle-aged businessmen in dark suits converged from all parts of the city to shake their fists at the United States Embassy and poke out their tongues at Parliament Buildings. A police spokesman said today 'I told them so.'" It's lucky there were three floats on Vietnam—obviously this created such confusion in the public mind as to quell the rising surge of rebelry in each loyal breast.

Apologies to Miss Cowan, and I indeed agree that most girls "have an inborn intuition of social techniques." But "the continued success of mixed tutorials!" Goodness me, it sounds as if some people have rather more exciting tutorials than I do. Problem: "Dear Miss Gooby. How can I make my mixed tutorials more successful?" Ans. —Get hold of a book on advanced social techniques, or join a club with this as its object.
