A Real Mess

A Real Mess

But no one would deny that Christianity is a real mess. Which of all the weird and wonderful types going under the name are actually Christian? No doubt one has to get clear what one means by "Christian", but, even if one does define it, if you are a Christian you are commanded not to judge other people! (Matthew vii, 1.)!

This was a dilemma for the 50 or so S.C.Mers who at their weekend camp July 1-3 were discussing "Is the Church still Christian?" The Rev. Brian Walker, a 30'ish Methodist and Gen. Sec. of the N.Z. Student Christian Movement, theologised about what a Christian is ("A person who recognises that he is redeemed through God's grace" is the technical jargon he used, meaning, a person who lives humbled by Jesus's example.) With this theorising as a spring-board the Churches' ways of expressing this attitude of mind were holly debated. In study groups, over excellent meals, in a Forum and from bunk to bunk the talk went on. And during services and meditations ideas were shaped and clarified.
