Women Win
Women Win
Crew members of the Victoria Women's Rowing team which won the Ladies' Invitation race at Easter Tournament were Jillian Huthnance, Daphne Roberts, Barbara Einhorn and Erina Kelly.
Jillian, a very competent stroke, was rowing for the second season. Daphne, rowing in the- No. 3 seal, was a very valuable addition to the crew from North Shore. The two novices were Barbara and Erina, who sat in No. 2 and Bow seats respectively. Barbara was awarded a pair of socks for the most improved rower.
The crew is greatly indebted to John Morgan, a Senior from the Star Rowing Club and an excellent coach, who trained them for four weeks before the race. Without his patient help and valuable experience the crew would not have shaped as well as it did.
The race in which the three crews. Victoria, Auckland No. 1 and No. 2 took part was rowed over a course of half a mile in gusty weather conditions. Victoria started poorly and the Auckland No. 1 crew quickly took the lead. Victoria soon overtook them and lead for over half the course, winning by three lengths from the Auckland No. 1 crew.
