Will Hitler Settle In Wellington?

Will Hitler Settle In Wellington?

No-one knows for certain that Hitler is dead. There are logical reasons for believing that his body was burnt in Berlin; yet all over the world there is the nagging fear that he will appear again. There have been stories about the submarine that took him to the Argentine all those years ago. Who can say that this happened? Who can say that this did not happen? Just suppose Hitler is still alive, just suppose he escaped in one of the submarines that have been sporting with the Argentinian Navy recently. Let's ask ourselves a few questions.

1. Why did Hitler leave Argentine?

Perhaps he couldn't remain hidden any longer; perhaps he had done all he could in South America. A man of his ambitions would not want to stay in Argentine for ever!

2. Where did Hitler sail to?

Surely not north between the U.S.A. and Europe into waters patrolled by warships of many nations! Not eastwards to South Africa—there is no future for a Hitler in Africa today. Not to North Africa where a European would attract attention. Where, then? Why not New Zealand?

3. Why New Zealand ?

Why? Simple. Hundreds of miles of lonely unguarded coastline. No modern navy to defend New Zealand's shores. An easy-going country where a person could move about easily, unnoticed. A country where the other fellow's political beliefs are by and large accepted. No security police worthy of the name. A country that would provide converts to Nazism. Witness the gentlemen who painted swastikas all over Victoria University's Science Block.

4. Why settle in Wellington ?

We could hazard a few guesses! He would want to take a course in Political Science from Victoria, and when the time for leaving came would want access to the finest International Airport in the country—as surely Wellington Airport will be in the very near future.
