Athletes Hope for Success

Athletes Hope for Success

This season the athletic club has had strong representation at all meetings held in the Wellington centre. Some of our boys showing definite promise in local competition are:—

R. Irwin, L. Leikis and J. Clapham in the sprints; D. Beauchamp and M. Stephens in the half-mile; L. Croxson, B. Cooper and D. Trow in the middle distances. In the jumps and field events F. F. Duncan and C. A. Beyer are shaping well.

Barry Cooper is returning some good times in the 220 and 440 hurdles and may well get a place in the N.Z.U. team to visit Australia next year.

In the women's section J. Buck-land has been giving some very good performances.

Ian McCausland, a young junior who recently joined the club, made a fine effort in the, junior provincial mile, coming second in 4min. 27sec.

Tournament

The team to go to Easter Tournament at Auckland will be selected shortly. All athletes who are interested, both men and women, should get into training immediately. Those who have not done so should get in touch with a member of the committee.

This year the inter-faculty sports will be held on March 14, and some keen competition is expected. All Freshers are welcome to participate and should see the club notice board regarding entries. These sports are the main basis for tournament selection.
