Crazy, twisted Calypso

Crazy, twisted Calypso

(Whiter Tournament. Christchurch '56)

Christchurch City of the Plains
Here witness my growing pains
—Not the pains I'm now prone to
But the ones I grow into.
Avon fledglings pitch your song
Softly where I me under on
Always willing toujours gai
Looking for gold in a vein of of purest clay.

Architecture everywhere
Rocking round Cath edral Square
Gray and white and gray again
Low and high and in between;
Dirty, rusty, gleaming white,
Good taste, bad taste, I'll be right,
Right or white or black or gray,
Looking for gold in a vein of purest clay.

Christchurch City of the Plains
Who knows of my little gains
Tight down deep in a taxi seat
Number for number in Colombo Street?
Taxi taxi don't be shy
Come now will you be Joining me?
Tricksy hotsy taxi play
Looking for gold in a vein of purest clay.
Tuesday's party play was played
At the Mistake that Taylor made.
Women strangers, in a bach
So small they were hard to detach.
There with harsh long days forgot
Find your peace or find it not
Stamp and shout it day by day
Looking for gold in a vein of purest clay.

—Jig Oboe George

A number of New Zealand students have made plans to attend the Italian University for Foreigners at Perugia, next year. Taking advantage of travel concessions offered by the Italian Government, they will go to Italy to study the country's [unclear: language,] history and culture. Publicity concerning the University has been posted on the college notice boards for some time.
