Golf Club Day
Golf Club Day
A record attendance of 48 members at Paraparaumu made the VUC Golf Club's first club day of the year a most encouraging start to the season's activities.
A stableford competition held in the afternoon was won by H. R. Carver with 35 points; B. R. Boon, 33 points, was runner-up.
New Zealand Universities should be able to field a very strong team in their match against the South Africans later in the season. Many outstanding players will be on call, including ten All Blacks. Likely candidates for the team include R. A. Jarden, J. T. Fitzgerald, W. H. Clark (Victoria); H. L. Smith, B. B. J. Fitzpatrick, J. M. Tanner, B. A. Nepia (Auckland); M. W. Irwin (Otago); S. G. Bremncr (Canterbury); and J. B. Buxton (Lincoln).
The next issue of Salient will include an article by Dick Gilberd, NZ USA Sports Officer, on eligibility for this side.
