By-election soon for Executive positions

The association's Constitution provides that in the event of more than three elected members of Executive resigning during their term of office, elections must be held for all the positions vacated.

In August last year secretary John Marchant and treasurer John Whitta resigned but were later co-opted back to there offices.

Now that Misses Barnett and Grocott have resigned, Messrs. Merchant and Whitta, being merely co-optees onto Executive, are deemed in the terms of the Constitution to have automatically resigned also.

The new election necessitated makes all the more annoying at this late Stage the whole Marchant-Whitta affair. On August 7 last Mr. Marchant gave notice of intention to resign in protest over alleged apathy on the Executive members. Two days later Mr. Whitta "provisionally" resigned "in sympathy."

It was subsequently held that according to the Constitution both were deemed to have resigned from the moment of notifying their intention to do so.

After a stormy special general meeting, at which the air was less than half-cleared, and several farcical Executive meetings, both were co-opted to the positions they had originally held.
