Salient. An Organ of Student Opinion at Victoria College, Wellington, N.Z. Vol. 15, No. 6. April 24, 1952
For 1952
For 1952
Victoria! So happy now may be The year that greets thee; blest the youthful throng
Who gaily come thy sombre halls among,
While Autumn's first brown leaf blows in to me!
Blest be the Bread of Knowledge, prudently
Drop, from thy Ivory Tow'ers, in whole or part;
Peace to thy pleasances that glad the heart
By lawns and flow'rs—and in the cemetery!
Grace to thy playing-green, whereon to learn
Endeavour's need, and strength in unity—
Whether or no The Wooden Spoon be won!
Be this the boon for which thy light shall burn—
Peace in thy midst, and heartmost fealty,
Until the labour of the year be done.
From the Office Boy.
