Song of the Young Revolutionary Leaving the Wars

Song of the Young Revolutionary Leaving the Wars

"For we shall build a new world
From the mud and slime of battles,
No more the death, rattles
Of fools, but the song of victory hurled
Exultant to the sky. Guns have snarled
Too long. We will arise, mighty in peace
To free the slaves from the slums, release
From service bondage the old and gnarled.
Victims of tyranny, smash despots on the anvil
Where we forge our freedom, We will
Build for eternity, not with blood, the sweat
Of nations, but with the glorious purpose of those met
In peace." The young voice faltered, tone by tone the grand
Syllables died away, as life left his body in the reddened sand,

—Alec Bryan.
