What about a modern University and Training College on the site of Government House? The Governor does not need 54 acres, and could live out of town with little inconvenience. Vic. will still be overcrowded in 50 years time if something is not done. The present overcrowding and staff shortage is not producing the best students, and is not due entirely to the war. Millions were spent on destruction during the war yet money is sparingly spent now on social services. But this is typical of a plan-" less free enterprise society.

A decision to move to another site should be made now, and a University built which would be a pride to the land with the highest standard of living, with its Racing. Rugby and wRestling. Further building on the present site is increasingly difficult, and will not provide adequate sports grounds. Next year with the jubilee and the elections we will no doubt hear many more promises regarding this college, but that is all they will ever be.

Those lucky students on bursaries should seriously think of what will happen if a Tory Government is elected next year. During the last depression they cut the college grant, withdrew their subsidy towards building Weir House, and closed the Training College.

There is every indication that a slump will be with us again, and those who think that any reforms will come by sitting and waiting are idle dreamers, as no one will fight the students' case unless they take the initiative first.
