Basketball Prospects

Basketball Prospects

After successive victories in the Easter Tournament in 1937 and 1938, the Basketball Club is reaching a pitch of keenness that might well be emulated by some other V.U.C. sports clubs. Practices for this year's Tourney have been in hand for a month. In spite of Basketball's being a winter game!

Of last year's team six are back at Victoria and two other girls are coming to practices from country school teaching positions: In addition there are several girls from last year's B team who must seriously be considered for places. The selector's task is unenviable, but a good [unclear: combination] is assured. There seems every possibility of V.U.C. doing the supposedly impossible—win the Basketball Shield at three successive Easters.

The club is anxious to field three teams this year. Now players are wanted. Freshers are certain of a warm welcome and plenty of "keeping fit." The new rules should make for faster play and an even more enjoyable winter game. Coaching at Victoria caters for those new to the game as well as those who have a nodding acquaintance with basketball or netball.

Leave a note for Pixie Higgin and watch for notices re the practice nights.
