Provincial Champs

Provincial Champs.

Then there were the Wellington Provincial Championships on the 25th February. 'Varsity didn't get a single title but the green and gold were in most cases well up in the placings.

Eastwood (2nd) and C. V. Adams (3rd) were so close to Quinn in the 100 yds. final that a blanket would have covered the three of them. Gorringe was another finalist in the 100 and 220, finishing third in the latter. Eastwood was again Just unfortunate in the 440 after setting too fast a puce in the early stages. Again he made Quinn go hard to win. Black is not quite up to form yet in the half-mile. He will be better by Tournament. Geoff Annear was disappointing in the mile but should not be discouraged. He knows he is capable of a better performance. After heating Mackay the previous week in a 3-mile Dewar Shield event. Serymgeour had to fill 2nd place to him in the Championship. His time was a fraction under the N.Z.U. Record. Athol Congalton, in running 3rd in this race showed much improvement. With a little Inure speed he will be hard to beat at this distance. Irving (2nd 120 hurdles and 3rd 220 hurdles) should have done better. He ran well nevertheless and looks like retaining his high hurdles tide at Tournament. J. S. Adams was 3rd in the Javelin throw and is steadily improving as a result of Stan Lay's able tuition in Stratford.
