Salient. An Organ of Student Opinion at Victoria College, Wellington, N.Z. Vol. 2, No. 1 March 8, 1939

Join a Sports Club

Join a Sports Club

We would particularly address those new students known at 'Varsity as freshers. If you are one, lose no time in joining one of the numerous sports clubs at Victoria College. There is very little formality about joining a club. Just see the secretary or a club official (vide S.C.M. Handbook) and you will be eagerly welcomed.

But if you are to be a University man or woman, don't join an outside sports club. Link up with the 'Varsity one and have your exercise and recreation in the company of the students with whom you pursue your academic course. There is no dearth of sports clubs at V.U.C. In summer there are the Cricket, Tennis, Rowing, Athletic and Swimming Clubs; for the shorter winter days, the Men's and Women's Hockey Clubs, the Rugby Football Club, the Harrier and the Basketball Clubs; and then there are the Tramping Club, with activities not strictly seasonal, the Boxing, Shooting and Table Tennis Clubs. Seven of these Clubs send representatives to the annual Easter Tournament, the climax of the sporting year. One can win even fame by athletic prowess, but that is a secondary consideration. The main one is enjoyment and recreation and to provide that for every member is the paramount aim of Victoria College sports clubs. So cast away your doubt or diffidence, and join the club that appeals to you most.
