After Rain
After Rain
Mists lift smokily,
Up rain-wet valley sides
To the sun-screening clouds.
Below them
The fields look fresh-smelling.
Clean and fresh before the muddy slush
Of passing cattle.
Trees, their far-flung leaves
Fallen in the wind-brought rain.
Stand uncloaked and yet uninteresting,
A waiting the sunlight
With gift of sparkling beauty.
