The Kia ora coo-ee : the magazine for the ANZACS in the Middle East, 1918

[section]

"Bill Bowyang": This is how Bill broke the news to his mother: "Dear Mother—Things have been lively here lately. Yesterday 'Abdul' dropped a bomb within thirty yards of me. I didn't stop it. Last night a shell blew the roof off my dugout. I didn't stop it. This morning another bomb blew particles of my horse about seven miles across the Hills of Moab. I didn't stop it. Ten minutes later a stray bullet that wanted to find a home came my way. I stopped it. I'm writing these lines inside an ambulance that's zig-zagging over the hills of Judaea. Your son, Bill. P.S. Send me a tenner, for my paybook is overdrawn, and a bloke wants money when in Hospital".
