POWER, Harold Septimus 1878–1951
Born Dunedin, son of painter Peter Power: studied in Adelaide then in 1905 at Julian Academy in Paris under Jean Paul Laurens. Returned to Australia and became the most celebrated Australian animal painter of his time, making special studies of horse anatomy. Was official Australian war artist 1914–18 war and painted large page 198 murals of cavalry engagements. Represented in Australian State galleries; Australian War Museum, Canberra; Imperial War Museum, London. A mural “War” is in stairway of Public Library, Melbourne.
