STURTEVANT, George Neville 1858–1937

Son of draughtsman George Sturtevant, arriving Auckland with his father on the Annie Wilson 1863. Exhibited with ASA at first (1882–83) as G. Sturtevant Jnr, then as G. N. Sturtevant he continued through the 1880s. 1889 transferred to Government Printing Office in Wellington and became head of Lithography Department. In 1880s painted watercolours of ferns, of local scenes; but many of his paintings in the 1890s were made from photographs and sketches by others; he was known too as an engraver. Represented: Wanganui Museum, National Museum, and Turnbull.
