Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1898.

[No. 173, 1897.—Petition of Kararaina Kaimoana and 59 Others.]

No. 173, 1897.—Petition of Kararaina Kaimoana and 59 Others.

Petitioners allege that the Hereheretau Block was vested in the ten certificated owners in trust for the tribe, and that three of these trustees have wrongfully sold interests. They pray that legislation may be passed to give them their rights in the said land.

I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government for inquiry, as suggested by the Chief Judge of the Native Land Court in his report on the subject.

5th August, 1898.

[Translation.]

E inoi ana nga kai-pitihana kia paahitia he ture e whiwhi ai ratou i o ratou tika ki taua whenua.
