Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1896.

[No. 204.—Petition of Alice Mary Redmond, of Wellington.]

No. 204.—Petition of Alice Mary Redmond, of Wellington.

Petitioner, a half-caste, belonging to the Ngatiawa Tribe, Waitara, alleges that owing to her having lived with her parents in the Middle Island from her childhood she has had no opportunity of prosecuting her claims to certain lands in Taranaki. She prays for consideration as a landless Native.

I am directed to report that the Committee is of opinion this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry, and if the allegations are found to be correct, it is recommended that relief be granted to the petitioner.

7th August, 1896.

No. 204.—Pitihana a Alice Mary Redmond, o Poneke.

E inoi ana ia kia whakaarohia tona mate i te mea he Maori kore whenua ia.

Kua whakahaua ahau kia ki penei, ki te whakaaro a te Komiti me tuku atu tenei pitihana ki te Kawanatanga kia uiuia, a ki te kitea he tika nga korero o roto me whakaae kia hoatu he ora mo te kai-pitihana.
