Reports of the Native Affairs Committee, 1895

[No. 366, 1894.—Petition of Hoterene Kawiti and 32 Others.]

No. 366, 1894.—Petition of Hoterene Kawiti and 32 Others.

Petitioners pray that they may still be allowed to use a certain road to the Kawakawa Estuary which was closed when the railway-station was removed.

I have the honour to report that, as the road referred to has been used for years both by Natives and Europeans, and, as the Natives received a distinct promise that the road should remain open, the Committee recommends that the Government should grant the prayer of the petition.

30th July, 1895.

[Translation.]
No. 366, 1894.—Pitihana a Hoterene Kawiti me etahi atu e toru tekau ma rua.
