Extract from the Journals of the House of Representatives, Tuesday, 5th July, 1892.
Ordered, "That a Native Affairs Committee consisting of ten members be appointed to consider all petitions, reports, returns, and other documents relating to affairs especially affecting the Native race that may be brought before the House this session, and from time to time to report thereon to the House; with power to call for persons and papers; three to form a quorum. The Committee to consist of the Hon. Mr. Carroll, Mr. Houston, Mr. Kapa, Mr. W. Kelly, Hon. Mr. Mitchelson, Mr. Parata, Hon. Mr. Richardson, Mr, W. C. Smith, Mr. Taipua, and the mover."—(Hon. I whakahaua, "Kia whakaturia tetahi Komiti kia tekau nga mema hei whiriwhiri i nga pitihana katoa me nga ripoata me nga ritana me etahi atu pukapuka e pa ana ki nga Maori a tera e mauria mai ki te aroaro o te Whare i tenei Paremete me te tuku ripoata ano hoki i ia wa i runga i aua pitihana me aua pukapuka ki te Whare, mo te whai mana ano hoki ki te tono kia haere mai nga tangata kia tukua mai hoki nga pukapuka me te mana ano hoki o nga tangata tokotoru te noho hei Komiti. A koia nei nga ingoa o nga mema mo taua Komiti: Ko Timi Kara, ko te Huihana, ko te Kapa, ko te Kere, ko te Miterehana, ko Tame Parata, ko te Retihana, ko te Mete, ko Taipua, me to Kaimotini ara ko te Karimana."
