FromThe Times, Dec. 19, 1865

FromThe Times, Dec. 19, 1865.

"In these smooth days of steam and rail to the uttermost corners of the earth, Robinson-Crusoe-like adventure does not seem to be very easy of attainment even to a man who may have a fancy for such experience. Nevertheless, some few desert islands still remain to us; and the Auckland Islands, about 400 miles to the south of New Zealand, are among the number. We had recently a visit from a mariner named Musgrave, whose diary of his nearly 20 months' stay on one of these islands is almost as interesting as Daniel Defoe, besides being, as the children say, 'all true.'"—Times' Correspondent.
