Illustrated Guide to Christchurch and Neighbourhood

The Union Bank of Australia (Limited)

The Union Bank of Australia (Limited).

This Bank, which was established in 1837, was incorporated as a Limited Liability Company in 1880. It has, at the present time, Paid-up Capital and Reserve Funds amounting to £2,460,000, with Reserve Liability of Proprietors, £3,000,000 in addition, being the largest paid-up capital possessed by any Bank doing business in the colonies. It was the first Bank in Christchurch, its opening here having been contemporary with the foundation of the Canterbury province. Handsome stone premises (of which we give an illustration) have been erected in Hereford-street, on the site of the former building, which was destroyed by fire in 1882.
