This Deed made the fifteenth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-two, between Ko Wiremu, Kingi te Koihua, Tamiti Pirimona, Marino, Tepene te Rakaherea, Rawiri Watino, Te Wirihana, Aboriginal Natives of Massacre Bay, in the Colony of New Zealand; Rawiri Puaha, Hohepa Tamihengia, Aboriginal Natives of Porirua, in the said Colony; Hemi Kepa te Iti, an Aboriginal Native of Motueka, in the said Colony; Wiremu Nga Manu, an Aboriginal Native of Wakapuaka, in the said Colony; Maka Tarapiko, an Aboriginal Native of Kaiau, in the said Colony, and the several Aboriginal Natives whose names are hereunto subscribed on behalf of themselves and the other owners of the land or ground hereinafter mentioned of the one part, and Her most Excellent Majesty Victoria, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith, of the other part.

Whereas the said Ko Wiremu, Kingi te Koihua, Tamiti Pirimona Marino, Tepene te Rakaherea, Rawiri Watino, Te Wirihana, Rawiri Puaha, Hohepa Tamihengia, Hemi Kepa te Iti, Wiremu Nga Manu, Maka Tarapiko, and the said several other Aboriginal Natives whose names are hereunto subscribed, have agreed with Matthew Richmond, Esquire, Superintendent for the district of Nelson, in the said Colony, acting for and on behalf of Her said Majesty for the purchase of a block or parcel of land or ground hereinafter particularly described, at or for the price or sum of five hundred and fifty pounds sterling. Now this deed witnesseth that in consideration of the said sum of five hundred and fifty pounds sterling paid to the said Ko Wiremo, Kingi te Koihua, Tamiti Pirimona Marino, Tepene te Rakaherea, Rawiri Watino, Te Wirihana, Rawiri Puaha, Hohepa Tamihengia, Remi Kepa te Iti, Wiremu Nga Manu, Maka Tarapiko, and the said several other Aboriginal Natives whose names are hereunto subscribed for and on behalf of Her said Majesty, at or before the signing of these page 379presents the receipt of which said sum the said Ko Wiremu Kingi te Koihua, Tamati Pirimona Marino, Tepene te Rakaherea, Rawiri Watino, Te Wirihana, Rawiri Puaha, Hohepa Tamihengia, Hemi Kepa te Iti, Wiremu Nga Manu, Maka Tarapiko, do hereby respectively admit and acknowledge, they the said Ko Wiremu, Kingi te Koihua, Tamiti Pirimona Marino, Tepene te Rakaherea, Rawiri Watino, Te Wirihana, Rawiri Puaha, Hohepa Tamihengia, Hemi Kepa te Iti, Wiremu Nga Manu, Maka Tarapiko, for themselves and for and on behalf of all the respective owners of the said land or ground, do hereby convey and assure unto Her said Majesty, and her heirs, all that block or parcel of land or ground and all the islands adjoining or adjacent thereto, situated in the Middle Island of New Zealand, being on the west side of Massacre Bay, bounded on the North by Cook's Strait; on the East by Massacre Bay; on the South partly by lands surveyed by the New Zealand Company in the Aorere priti River, which have since become demense lands of the Crown, and partly by lands extending from thence to the West Coast, at or near Te Whanganui, still claimed by Aboriginal Natives; and on the West by the Pacific Ocean, and which said block or parcel of land or ground includes the places following, videlicet, Ko Opu, Ko Whakamarama, Ko te Rua o te Taniwha, Ko Waikato, Ko Tamatea, Ko Tongirere, Ko Pakawau, Ko te Motukatoa, Ko te Motuporoporo, Ko te Rae, Ko Mauku-uku, Ko Taupata, Ko Motukaroro, Ko Pupongo, Ko te Reinga (or Cape Farewell), Ko Onotahua (or the Sandspit), Ko te Warariki, Ko te Angaanga, Ko te Nuroa, ko Kaihoka. Ko Matarua. Ko Manganuiawata, Ko Mangarara, Ko te Poroporo, Ko Onatauora, Ko te Papa, Ko Meroiti, Ko Toiere, Ko te Whanganui, and is more particularly delineated and described on the plan hereunto annexed, and coloured pink, together with all and every the appurtenances to the said land or ground and premises belonging or appertaining or therewith held or enjoyed, to have and to hold the said block of land or ground, and all and singular other the premises unto Her said Majesty, her heirs and successors, for ever.

In witness whereof the said parties to these presents have respectively hereunto subscribed their names, the day and year first above written.
