Copy of Deed of Exchange of Town Section No. 946, Nelson, between Messrs. Curtis Brothers and her Majesty the Queen, in lieu of Native Reserve Sections Nos. 266 and 269 hereby conveyed.

This deed, made the twenty-ninth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-nine, between Herbert Evelyn Curtis and Oswald Curtis, of the City of Nelson, in the Colony of New Zealand, merchants, of the one part, and her most gracious Majesty Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, of the other part, whereas the said Herbert Evelyn Curtis and Oswald Curtis are seized of or otherwise well and sufficiently entitled to the allotment or parcel of land firstly hereinafter described, and the allotments or parcels of land hereinafter secondly described, still form part of the desmesne lands of the Crown, but have been reserved for Native purposes, and it has been mutually agreed to exchange the said lands. Now This Deed Witnesseth, that in pursuance of the said agreement and for the purposes aforesaid, they, the said Herbert Evelyn Curtis and Oswald Curtis, do and each of them doth by these presents convey and assure unto her said Majesty Queen Victoria, and to her successors and assigns, all that allotment or parcel of land situate in the City of Nelson aforesaid, containing one acre, more or less, being section numbered 946 on the plan of the said city, bounded on the north by section numbered 944 on the said plan; on the east, by the Waimea road; on the south, by section numbered 948 on the said plan; and on the west, by Kawia-street, and which said allotment or parcel of land is more particularly delineated and described on the plan numbered 1 drawn in the margin of these presents, and thereon coloured pink, together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging or appertaining, to hold the said allotment or parcel of land with the appurtenances unto her said Majesty, her successors and assigns for ever, in lieu of and in exchange for all that allotment or parcel of land situate in the City of Nelson aforesaid, being sections numbered respectively 266 and 269 on the plan of the said city, as the same is delineated on the plan numbered 2 drawn in the margin of these presents, and thereon coloured blue. In witness whereof the said parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands the day and year first above-written.
